What is a Jug Puppy

Jug puppies have only been on the scene for a few short years. They are a mixture of a Jack Russel purebread with a Pug purebread. These new types of dogs are known as "designer mutts" and are gaining in popularity very quickly. The dog lovers community are very divided on the whole jug puppy issue. Some professionals state that the physical characteristics of one mixed jug puppy while vary widly from the next and their personality will vary just as much. However, many of the owners have nothing but praise for their little puppies. It's been said that if we don't buy them, someone else will, so why not give them a good happy home.

So on one side, you have the owners saying their Jugs are wonderful dogs and they love them to bits, but on the other hand professional breeders condeming the practice of mixing two registered breeds for resale as unethical and unpredictable.

Since jug pupies are a mix of jack russel terriers and pugs, their characteristics will be a mixture of the two breeds:

Jack Russel Terrier Puppies:

From the terrier breed group, jack russels usually grow between 12 - 14 inches high and weight between 13 - 17 pounds.

Jack Russell's are small, yet agile, and brave terriers, who are good at hunting small animals like rabbits, raccoons and foxes. Similar to other terriers they can become bored easily and will be capable of inventing their own entertainment(sometimes to the dismay of the owner!). Jack Russell Terriers are tough but clean and a convenient size for a companion in a smaller living space. Jack Russell's often have friendly, bold characteristics and can be athletic and clever.

Pug Puppies

Pugs are from the Toy breed group. They usually weight between 14 - 18 pounds and can grow as high as 11inches.

Pugs are an addorable breed. When one looks at you and tilts his head to the side, all but the hardest hearts will melt. They combine almost over confidence with a sensitve, and friendly nature. They are great for children and love playtime / exercise.
